Bhutan has made impressive progress towards ensuring gender equity in education. Girls’ enrollment as a percentage of the total school enrollment is about 50%, at primary and secondary education level in 2012. At the higher secondary level, the enrollment of girls has been increasing steadily over the years. Girl’s enrollment in the Secondary education has increased from 45% in 2002 to 53.5% in 2012, with the increase of 8.5% since 2002.

  1. Eliminate gender disparity in primary and secondary education preferably by 2005, and at all levels by 2015
    • Ratios of girls to boys in primary, secondary and tertiary education
    • Share of women in wage employment in the non-agricultural sector
    • Proportion of seats held by women in national parliament
