Earth Hour in Bhutan
25 March 2014, Thimphu; On Saturday March 29 at 8:30 pm, millions of people across the world will switch off lights for one hour as a gesture of commitment and respect to the planet. This year, in Thimphu as part of the global movement UNDP is partnering with Dorje Events to observe Earth Hour.
The open event will take place at the Centenary Park in Chalingmithang and is targeting young children and the local community to participate in a lamp/lantern making session using a recycled jars and paints. The Centenary Park event will start at 6 pm and will go black at 6.30 pm leaving only the lamps lit.
In addition messages on the Earth Hour from UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon, videos of the 2013 Earth Hour will also be screened at the Centenary Park. The event aims to advocate on the importance of global warming and its impact. The event is a small way to raise awareness and demonstrate that it is possible to survive without the electronic devices and energy consuming products.
