African Agribusiness Supplier Development Programme

As part of its mandate, UNDP’s African Facility for Inclusive Markets (AFIM), has developed an African Agribusiness Supplier Development Programme (AASDP) in support of the AU and CAADP’s agriculture transformation and food security agenda. The objectives of the agricultural supplier development programme (ASDP) are three-fold: first, to improve the quantity and quality supply of agricultural products by farmers and SMEs to markets; second, to provide smallholder farmers and SMEs with support in accessing the growing agricultural supply chains of lead firms; third, to contribute to the development of national African economies by developing agricultural products that meet market quality standards.

African Agribusiness Supplier Development Programme Toolkit

This toolkit sets out the programme’s conditions for starting up an ASDP in an African country and it suggests several tools for implementing the programme. It is firstly targeted towards UNDP COs willing to design an ASDP. The tool will form a framework to create commitment of National Governments (UNDP’s client) and to facilitate linkages between partners (off-takers), beneficiaries (smallholders and SMEs) and service suppliers involved in agricultural supply chains. The complementary training manual will be used in capacity development training of all relevant stakeholders.
