Low Emission Development Strategy for Food Security

July 20, 2021

GHG emissions from the agriculture and livestock sector have historically been a significant contributor to Bhutan’s total national greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. The GHG inventory of the Third National Communication (TNC) of Bhutan to the UNFCCC indicates that in 2015 the Agriculture, Forestry and Other Land Use (AFOLU) sector accounted for 57.2% (2,183.25 ktCO2e) of the national emissions. Recognizing the need to enhance food production while considering Bhutan´s commitment to remain carbon neutral ‘for all times’, the LEDS for Food Security is a key strategic long-term planning document.
